A few Friday night links — Brewer says Holt must go

A couple more links to pass along before calling it a night. …

— FootballScoop.com, which reported earlier today that “we are told Nick Holt and safeties coach Jeff Mills will not return” has since updated its report to note it was contacted by UW and told that all coaches who coached in the Alamo Bowl remain employed at UW. Since that’s all it says, it’s kind of left to the reader to decide if that means Football Scoop is retracting its report or what but that’s certainly one way it could be taken.

— Times columnist Jerry Brewer weighs in on the controversy over Holt’s future and says Steve Sarkisian will have to make the hard decision to let Holt go.

— My followup story also focuses on the defense and its future.

— The San Antonio Express-News reports the game got an initial 4.5 TV rating and quotes the bowl’s president/CEO Derrick Fox as saying it produced possibly the most electric atmosphere in the game’s history.

— The rating was double that of last year’s Alamo Bowl featuring Arizona and Oklahoma State.

— ESPN.com has a number of stats on the game, including noting it was just two points short of the record for most combined points in regulation of any FBS game.

— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller says that ultimately, Washington did not take a step forward this season.

— Among those noting that Keith Price overshadowed Robert Griffin III is the Washington Post.
