Here’s what may be the final blog post of the day to pass along the links to the stories of the news of the day:
— Here’s our story on the hiring of Justin Wilcox and Peter Sirmon;
— and here’s our story on Chris Polk’s departure for the NFL.
— Also, here’s an in-depth story from The Idaho Statesman from 2006 with lots of good background on Justin Wilcox.
In the span of about three hours this morning, UW took care of what may have been the two biggest questions of the off-season.
What remains now is filling out recruiting — that’s sure to be a wild ride to the Feb. 1 signing date — and the last two defensive assistant coaching spots (cornerbacks and safeties). Since we have no access to anyone from the school, hard to know what the timetable is for those spots.
But in terms of recruiting, filling the coordinator spot was the big one, and having seven assistants in the fold is also more than enough for now, with more than half the class filled anyway. So it’s possible the other spots wait a little while. Or, given the way this has gone so far, maybe not.
UPDATE, 7 P.M. — And meant to add this earlier — FootballScoop is reporting that UCLA will hire away UW’s director of football operations, Dennis Slutak, to a role as senior associate AD for football. The two jobs are probably the same. At UW Slutak handled things such as team travel and finding places to practice on the road, and lots of other off-field logistical type stuff. It’s not an on-field coaching position.
