Reviewing the Class of 2011

The news earlier this week that Marvin Hall and Antavius Sims means that every member of the Class of 2011 that signed last February is now present and accounted for on the UW roster.

And that makes it a good time to review what each member of that class did this season:

QB/CB/ATH Antavius Sims — Sat out season while getting academics in order and enrolling today. Since his eligibility clock had started, last season counts as a redshirt year so he has two years left to play two.
S Travis Feeney — Redshirted the season and generally was one of the most impressive of the redshirting defenders, generally playing free safety (though as will need to be realized about all the young defenders, where they line up could change now depending on what the new coaches want to do with guys). Scout Team game captain weeks of Nebraska and Oregon State games.
RB Bishop Sankey — One of four true freshmen members of this class to play this season, rushed for 187 yards and 6.7 yards per carry and will be in the competition to replace Chris Polk in 2012.
CB Marcus Peters — Seemed on the cusp of playing much of the season before the decision was made to finally redshirt him. Will be right smack in the competition for a starting CB job in 2012. Scout Team game captain for Oregon game.
QB Derrick Brown — Spent the season on the Scout Team as the No. 3 QB and redshirted. Will compete for the backup job in the spring.
WR Marvin Hall — Sat out the fall while academics were worked out but is now enrolled and has five years to play four.
S James Sample — Played in the Eastern and Colorado games but was saddled throughout with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery and the expectation is that he will get a medical redshirt season and be a freshman in 2012.
DT Danny Shelton — Played in all 13 games and emerged as a starter for the last two and will enter the spring as a starter up front. Finished with 11 tackles.
FB Dezden Petty — Redshirted. With Chris Polk gone and a few injury questions among other running backs, should get plenty of opportunity in the spring to make a case for playing time in the fall.
MLB Thomas Tutogi — One of two JC transfers in the class, played in all 13 games as a backup and special teams player, making 19 tackles and blocking a punt for a TD against WSU. Will compete to take over Cort Dennison’s starting job in the middle (though for now, hard to know exactly how the new defensive coaches may align the LBs).
OLB/DE Corey Waller — Redshirted, working primarily at the rush DE spot (where Josh Shirley plays). Twice was named a game captain for his work on the scout teams (weeks of Stanford and USC games).
WR Kasen Williams — Williams (pictured above) played in every game, officially starting three, and finished with 36 catches for 427 yards and six touchdowns while also serving as the main punt returner.
OG Siosifa Tufunga — Redshirted and will have chance to compete for spot in spring.
TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins — Played in every game, officially starting 10, turning in one of the best seasons ever for a Husky tight end with 41 catches for 528 yards and six touchdowns.
DE Jarett Finau — Redshirted and figures to compete to be in rotation beginning in the spring.
OLB Scott Lawyer — Redshirted, and like a lot of the young defensive guys, hard to know if his role might change in any way with the new coaches.
WR Josh Perkins — Redshirted and will have chance to get in rotation in 2012 with loss of Jermaine Kearse and Devin Aguilar.
WR Jamaal Jones — Same as Perkins, redshirted and will have chance to get in rotation in 2012.
DE Connor Cree — Like Finau, redshirted season and will loom as possible rotation player in 2012.
OLB Matthew Lyons — Redshirted.
OT Dexter Charles — Redshirted, and will have chance in spring to compete for tackle vacancy created by loss of Senio Kelemete.
DL Taniela Tupou — Redshirted. Scout team game captain for week of Utah game.
S Evan Zeger — Redshirted. Scout team game captain for week of Cal game.

— Note: Some might include RB Kyle Lewis of Downey, Calif., in this class as he committed to come to UW in July, signing a scholarship agreement. He was not admitted and enrolled at Cerritos Community College, though the stats show he only played in one game there so not sure if he’s still there or what.
