Do Husky fans want LSU to win?

I probably should have thrown this out there earlier, but better late than never, I’ll assume.

As a discussion topic during the BCS National Title Game, I’m wondering if UW fans have any rooting interest in LSU since the Huskies will play the Tigers in Baton Rouge Sept. 8.

The game will be big anyway, and it’s not like UW hasn’t often played defending national title winner through the years (all the seasons USC won it, for starters as well as Ohio State in 2003 and Nebraska in 1998 to name a couple others that come readily to mind). But it might throw just that much more of a spotlight on the game — or maybe it doesn’t matter at all.

As an aside, every time I see Nick Saban coach a game, I’m reminded of the 1997 Aloha Bowl when the Huskies beat a Saban-coached Michigan State team 51-23 in a game that was no closer than the score indicates. That was an overall somewhat disappointing season for the Huskies, but everything came together for the Huskies that day — and there was little in what Saban did with the Spartans in that game to indicate he’d become the coach he has.

As I type this, Saban has the Tide looking like it’s the better team so far, and me not feeling all that comfortable with my pick of LSU.
