Sunday afternoon update — Nussmeier said on way to Alabama

A couple quick notes to pass along. …

— There’s nothing “official” to pass along as it hasn’t been announced by either school, but a couple of different sources have indicated that Doug Nussmeier is expected to leave for Alabama to become the offensive coordinator of the Crimson Tide.

So the Huskies will be in need of a new offensive coordinator, which would be a turnover of more than half of the assistants — five of nine (four on defense, one offense). UW had no turnover the past three seasons (once the staff was finalized after signing day in 2009, anyway, as there was some shifting in the first few months).

A popular question will be who replaces Nussmeier. One name already floated is that of 49ers assistant John Morton, whose name was floated in 2009, as well. He worked alongside Steve Sarkisian for two years with the Trojans as well as with the Raiders in 2004 (and he’s not to be confused with the former USC and NFL receiver with a similar name).
Mason Kelley is reporting that Bellevue High OL Michael Kneip, who took an official visit to UW this weekend, has committed to enroll at UW as a preferred walk-on (which means he comes in for fall camp in August as part of the 105-man roster instead of when school begins in September). The 6-4, 290-pounder, projected by Scout.com as a tackle, was also said to have offers from Yale and Idaho State.

— Nothing substantive new on the Tosh Lupoi front.
