Sunday links

In roughly 24 hours, the Huskies will be completing their first spring practice of 2012. Until then. a few links for a Sunday morning with lots of UW’s 2012 foes in the middle or ending their own spring drills. …

— The Orange County Register has an in-depth feature on Jim Mora, including some stuff on how much time he spent at UW last season. I’ll admit, I hadn’t realized he was around that much — I don’t ever remember seeing him at a spring or fall practice and we don’t get access to team meetings or workout sessions. I saw Mora around a couple times and talked to him but he’d usually say he was there to watch a volleyball game or something. But it sounds like his involvement was pretty transformative for him.

— QB Zach Mettenberger had a solid day as LSU concluded spring practice Saturday. Here’s another LSU report and another.

Ted Miller’s weekly mailbag includes why he considers Mike Leach a candidate for second-best coach in the Pac-12, but not Steve Sarkisian.

— Arizona had lots of big plays at its scrimmage Saturday.

— Sounds like Arizona State’s scrimmage was a little ragged.

— The Orange County Register also has a look at the battle to be the backup to Matt Barkley at USC.

— Here are some news and notes on WSU’s scrimmage Saturday. And notice that with Connor Halliday out, the backup QB at the moment is David Gilbertson, son of former UW coach Keith Gilbertson.

— Both Oregon and Oregon State begin this week, as well. Here’s a preview of the Ducks and another of the Beavers.

— One-time UW signee Dominique Blackman appears in a two-man battle to be the new starter at Idaho.
