Thursday afternoon notes and links — Habben and Ossai sign with B.C. Lions

While the Huskies are finishing up spring practice, and a few alums wait for news of where they may soon be playing, a couple other ex-UW players have signed to play in the CFL — Cody Habben and Ben Ossai.

Here’s a release from the B.C. Lions with details as Habben and Ossai have each signed as a free agent with the team that last year won the Grey Cup title. Training camp begins in early June.

IN OTHER NEWS. …

— Speaking of ex-Huskies in the CFL, this story says Joe Lobendahn is continuing to recover from an ACL injury and his status for this year is uncertain. He’s been playing with Winnipeg.

— Tooling around the B.C. Lion website, I noticed the team is having a tryout at Rainier Beach High on May 12. So if you always wanted to play in the CFL, there’s your chance.

Ted Miller addresses UW’s defense, among a myriad of other topics in his weekly chat.

— The BCS announced earlier today it has narrowed its future playoff options to four-team formats.

Jon Wilner has his own take on the BCS news and links to a couple other stories.

Also, UW is practicing tomorrow but it is not open to the media and there is no access. So I won’t have any of the usual type reports on Friday. And the NFL Draft is obviously starting up here soon. I will pass along news when Huskies are taken, though with just the first round tonight, that may not be until tomorrow.
