Tuesday morning links — Athlon’s breaks down Pac-12 Heisman candidates

Mid-June, when other than recruiting there is little going on in college football, is the time for all kinds of speculation and prognostication about the season-to-be.

So it is with Athlon’s Sports, which comes up with not five, not 10, but 25 potential Heisman Trophy Candidates from the Pac-12 alone. Here’s the list, most of whom surely won’t come close to getting even a sniff of a vote — not a criticism of them, just the way it works that inevitably only about 8-10 players nationwide really factor in as the season starts to unfold.

As you can see, there are a few Huskies on the list — Keith Price at No. 4, Austin Seferian-Jenkins at 15 and Shaq Thompson at 24, with Kasen Williams listed as another name to watch, 25 apparently not being enough.

IN OTHER NEWS. …

— Defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes of Auburn, Calif. (in the Sacramento area) regarded as one of the top 2013 prospects at his position, revealed a top 15 list yesterday that included UW. He also Tweeted he will cut it to 10 soon.

— Here’s another in SB Nation’s nice set of Pac-12 previews, this one on Utah, including the stat that the Utes were 8-0 when scoring more than 14 points. UW, by contrast, was 7-6, its actual record for all games.

— Here’s an update on playoff talk.

— The Champs Sports Bowl is getting a new sponsor and name.

— Here’s Pre-Snap Read’s preview of a Wyoming team with lots of UW ties on its coaching staff.
