Utah game thread

THAT DOES IT — UW wins 34-15, outgaining Utah 437-198, and 22-9 in first downs.

Sankey had 162 yards rushing and has 1,017 for the season.

Price played his best game of the season going 24-33 for 257 and also running better than he has all season.

UW NOW UP 34-15 — Huskies will win and improve to 6-4 on the season and bowl eligible for a third straight year. More later.

UW RUNNING IT OUT NOW — UW has moved deep into Utah territory with a methodical drive that has the clock under six minutes and the game pretty much in hand.

UW GETS KEY STOP — Williams fumbled the ball away at the Utah 48 after picking up a third down. But Utah went three and out, a bad snap on third down helping lead to a sack. ASJ played at end on the third down play, which I counted as his third play on defense of the game.

ATTENDANCE — Is 60,050.

END OF THIRD QUARTER — UW leads 27-15 and has a 342-204 edge in yards. Sankey now has 116 rushing yards, his fifth 100-plus game this season. He’s 29 away from 1,000.

UW SCORES — Utah held UW to a three and out following the TD. But Henderson fumbled a low punt and UW recovered at the 46 and needed just five plays to score and now leads 27-15 with under two minutes to play in the third quarter. UW went for two but didn’t get it. UW has 317 yards to 199 for Utah.

UTAH BACK IN IT — The Utes got back in this one in a hurry with a nine-play, 61-yard drive capped by a 20-yard run by White. White picked up a fourth down to keep the drive going on a play where John Timu was injured and down on the field for about three minutes before walking off.

UW SCORES AGAIN — Huskies are taking complete control of this one, moving 43 yards in four plays in 2:10 to take a 21-8 lead with 10:13 to play.

The key play was a 24-yard pass from Price to ASJ to move it to the 9. On the next play, Price stayed strong in the face of a blitz and hit a wide open DiAndre Campbell over the middle for the score.

UTAH STOPPED — Utah went for it on fourth and one at its own 43 to start the second half and didn’t get it, Timu and Shelton making the stop. So UW now has it moving to the 33 already with a chance to take real control of the game.

PRICE HOT AT THE HALF — Price is 13-19 for 152 yards in the first half, maybe his best of the season. Sankey has 84 yards on 17 carries.

UW is also doing a nice job negating Reggie Dunn by pooching it and not kicking it to him. Utah will get the ball first to start the second half.

SARKISIAN HALFTIME COMMENTS — Sarkisian said in his halftime radio comments that he was talking to the officials as the half ended because “it’s obviously getting a little chippy after the whistles and we have gotten a couple of penalties that I don’t know if we are flopping or not. It’s European soccer all the sudden. Just want to make sure it’s going both ways.”

He also said Keith Price is playing well but that UW needs to protect better in obvious passing downs “because there are opportunities for us down field.”

UTAH STOPPED — UW has it with one last chance here in the half.

HUSKIES TAKE LEAD — UW has taken the lead on a 4-yard run by Keith Price to take a 14-8 lead with 2:16 left. That capped an eight play 67-yard drive keyed by a 47 yard pass from Price to Mickens on a third and nine. UW now has 218 yards against a Utah defense that came in allowing 336 per game.

UW THREE AND OUT — UW got 9 yards on first down run by Sankey, but lost all 9 on a second down sack and then the drive ended in an incomplete pass under heavy pressure. Utah will start at its own 49 after a kick catch interference penalty on Ducre. 8:07 left in the half.

UTAH THREE AND OUT — Good D for UW as Utah goes three and out and has to punt. UW takes over at its own 24 with 9:47 left in the half.

HUSKIES ON BOARD — A good drive for Keith Price who hits Kasen Williams for an 8-yard TD on a blitz on third and three to make it 8-7. That was 66 yards in eight plays and 3:51 for UW.

Huskies outgaining Utah 151-76 now.

FIRST QUARTER OVER — It’s 8-0 Utah at the end of the first quarter. Utah has an 83-76 edge in yards. UW has the ball at its own 32 with a second and 12. Utah scored on a 46-yard run by John White. Huskies using a lot of interesting combinations on the defensive line with a number of guys out up front.

UTES THREE AND OUT — ASJ was in again at DE on third down, a dropped screen pass. So Utah went three and out and UW takes over at its own 34.

UW PUNTS AGAIN — UW got a couple first downs but again was forced to punt and the Utes take over at their own 18.

UTAH ON THE BOARD — Utah on board on a 46-yard TD run by white and then a 2-point conversion makes it 8-0.

UW is obviously more banged up up front than we realized and Utah took advantage there as the Utes crushed a DL that had Schultz and Potoa’e up front and White went untouched.

ASJ AT END — In another apparent nod to their injury issues on the defensive line, UW had tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins playing some at defensive end. He first appeared at right defensive end on a third down play on Utah’s second drive.

BANKS ALSO NOT PLAYING — Also worth noting that Josh Banks also is not playing.

UW TWO FIRST DOWNS — Sankey had runs of 17 and 15 to start UW’s second drive. But a personal foul on Campbell turned a third and six into a third and 21 and Price then missed an open Williams down the sideline. Utah starts at its own 37.

UTAH PUNTS — The Utes got one first down and then punted. UW takes over at its own 13 with 9:27 to play in first.

NEW DL — A new-look DL for the Huskies with Semisi Tokolahi out at end along with Andrew Hudson and Danny Shelton and walk-on sophomore Drew Schultz starting at tackle. Schultz is from Olympia.

I’m assuming Schultz got the start due to injuries to Vatuvei and Crichton.

UW THREE AND OUT — UW goes three and out on first possession, though the fans booed loudly the spot on a third down pass to Williams, who was just a foot or so short. UW decided to punt after taking a delay.

GAME BEGINS — Utah won toss and deferred. UW gets the ball first.

TEAM OFF FIELD — The Huskies are off the field at about 7:15 — looks like about a 7:37 start time. No real changes to the lineups other than that with Fuimoano out, looks like Feeney is back as the starter at one LB spot.

RED, WHITE AND BLUE W’S — One uniform note is that UW is wearing a red, white and blue W on their helmets.

PRE-GAME NOTES — Trufant is going through all the warmups with the starters and looks fine.

Vatuvei and Fuimaono are out — not sure the deal with Fuimaono. Erich Wilson is also out — he is injured.

And Fellner is on the sidelines in his jersey, so while he is not playing, he appears back with the team.

We’ll start about 6 p.m. …
