I never know for sure if this is a night to celebrate or mourn as the college football season comes to a close with the national title game in Miami (here’s some good preview stuff from Athlon’s). Regardless, the game tonight puts an official close on a season that began in August and now changes gears into the off-season.
My pick for tonight’s game? Afraid I’m going with another favorite as I just see Alabama as being too balanced overall for a Notre Dame team that figures to struggle to move the ball consistently. Call it, Alabama 21, Notre Dame 13.
In other news. …
— There are rumblings of a “mystery commit” for UW that will be revealed sometime later today. If/when something becomes public on that I will pass it along.
— In an Insider piece, ESPN.com updates the recruitment of Bellevue LB Myles Jack. The story says that Jack is “solid with his commitment” but quotes Jack as saying he wants to take official visits to just “re-evaluate my decision.” He will visit Arizona State this weekend, then UCLA on J1n. 18, UW on Jan. 25 and Oregon on Feb. 2.
— Here’s another story on the commitment of John Ross to UW from his hometown paper.
— The big Pac-12 news last night was Chip Kelly’s decision to stay at Oregon. Here’s an overview from the Eugene Register-Guard, while Oregonian columnist John Canzano wonders if Kelly is waiting for the right opening.
— Interesting stuff here from the Wall Street Journal, estimating a value for every college football program. UW comes in 20th, second among Pacc-12 teams behind Oregon at 19th.
— UW target Eddie Vanderdoes is the Rivals.com Recruit of the Week.
— Former Husky QB Mark Brunell has a new job as a high school football coach.
— Bud Withers rates the Pac-12 bowl performances, and has UW higher than maybe some might expect.
— Some fun prop bets on tonight’s game.
Finally, how good is Vegas at what it does?
With one college football game to go, 408 favorites and 410 underdogs have covered the spread.
