A few links and notes to pass along tonight. …
— This was the first of four straight weekends of official visits for college football teams prior to the Feb. 6 signing date. UW ended up having nine visitors in, including six who have already committed. The three uncommitted players were linebacker Reuben Foster of Auburn, Ala., and offensive tackle Maurice Swain and defensive end Joe Sanders of La Grange, Ga. Trip reports on the various recruiting sites sounded positive, but none committed, and none are expected to make a final decision until making a few more visits.
— Foster is obviously the biggest name of the trio, rated by many as the best middle linebacker prospect in the country. As noted in the earlier post, recruiting analysts generally regard him as a long shot to commit to UW. But in the several interviews Foster has given, he sounded like the trip made a big impression. He told ESPN.com in an Insider story that the Huskies “have a very high percentage of getting me on signing day. That is how much I like them.” He said one thing he liked about UW is that they “really showed me that i was needed, not just wanted.” He has visits planned the next two weeks to Alabama and Georgia and also said LSU and Auburn remain considerations.
— One of UW’s other big LB targets remaining, Bellevue’s Myles Jack, visited Arizona State this weekend and told Scout.com “it was better than I expected it to be.” He noted both of his parents went to ASU and that his mother would “be all for it if I wanted to go to ASU.” He has visits the next three weeks to UCLA, UW and Oregon.
— At the moment, there are no reports of UW having visits the next two weeks from uncommitted players other than Jack. But that will undoubtedly change.
— Marques Tuiasosopo Tweeted tonight that he was in Spokane leading to speculation that he might have been paying a visit to Mead High LB/TE Danny Mattingly. Mattingly has committed to Oregon but also visited UCLA when Tuiasosopo was there — Tuiasosopo handled his recruiting with the Bruins before coming to UW.
— USC cornerback Nickell Robey will turn pro. The deadline to declare is Tuesday.
