Saturday notes — Williams to participate in track, and more

Kasen Williams, who a year ago decided not to participate in track, will make his debut for the Husky track and field  team next weekend.

Williams is on UW’s official track roster and will take part in the UW Invitational next week at the Dempsey Indoor.

According to this track blog, Williams will participate in the long jump and possibly the triple jump.

Williams decided not to run track last year to concentrate on football.

As you can read in his bio, he is one of the most decorated track athletes in Washington  high school history, winning five state titles in  various jumping events. His 77 receptions as a sophomore were also the third-most in UW history.

As you can see on the roster, Danny Shelton is also participating in track in throwing events.

IN OTHER NEWS. …

— UW center Drew Schaefer will participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl today at 3 p.m. on ESPN2. The roster lists Schaefer as a guard.

— CBSSports.com draft expert Rob Rang has Desmond Trufant No. 59 on his latest Big Board. This is a big week coming up for Trufant as he will participate  in the Senior Bowl, with the practices leading into the game almost as crucial as the game itself. The game is next Saturday.

— One 2014 mock draft has Austin Seferian-Jenkins slated No. 5 overall.

— Seferian-Jenkins has also been named to Lindy’s 2013 pre-season All-American First Team (there’s also a mention of Bishop Sankey as a consideration at running back).

— Former Husky Ray Horton has been named the defensive coordinator for the Browns.

— Here’s the final, official list of early entries for the NFL Draft.
