Steve Sarkisian’s press conference kicking off spring practice has ended.
Here are a few quick personnel updates:
— As he had earlier, Sarkisian said those out for the spring are DE Hau’oli Jamora, RBs Jesse Callier and Deontae Cooper, OL Colin Tanigawa, DLs Lawrence Lagafuina and Pio Vatuvei and LB Travis Feeney. Limited early is OL Erik Kohler and DB Brandon Beaver but both should be back for the second half of spring practice in April.
— Sarkisian said Kohler and Tanigawa will each be tried at center though Mike Criste will probably be there to start the spring until those two get healthy (with Shane Brostek, back at guard, likely helping fill in for Criste at guard).
— Sarkisian said Will Shamburger is the leader at free safety heading into spring ball but that Trevor Walker and Beaver will also get looks there as could some other CBs such as Tre Watson with the team hoping to improve its man coverage skills from the safety spot. Taz Stevenson and Thomas Vincent are also moving to safety to buff up the numbers at that spot.
— Sarkisian said Keith Price “is our starting quarterback” but said if someone else proves to be better than Price than that person will get the job. He said a key to the spring will be divvying up the snaps there equally throughout spring.
