Trufant taken by Falcons in first round of NFL Draft

Washington’s Desmond Trufant was selected  in the first round of the NFL Draft tonight by the Atlanta Falcons, taken with the No. 22 overall pick.

Here are a few quotes from Trufant, and some other stuff, from the Falcons’ web site.

And here is coverage from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Seahawks will play the Falcons this year on Nov. 10 in a rematch of last year’s playoff game, won by Atlanta.

Trufant became the first UW defensive player taken in the first round since Dana Hall and Steve Emtman in 1992.

The Falcons traded up eight spots to get Trufant to fill a sudden position  of need, and he should  have a chance at immediate playing time in 2013.

He comes the second member of the Trufant family taken in the first round — Marcus was the 11th overall pick of the Seahawks in 2003.
