Report — UW RB Erich Wilson to transfer

Washington sophomore running back Erich Wilson II is leaving UW with the plan of transferring to San Jose State, according to a few Tweets from a reporter from the San Jose Mercury News.

Wilson,a graduate of Serra High and who lists East Palo Alto, Calif., as his hometown, gained 145 yards on 28 carries as a true freshman in 2012 and figured to compete for a backup spot behind Bishop Sankey in 2013.

But UW couldĀ  have a pretty crowded backfield if the likes of Jesse Callier and Deontae Cooper return from injury, and with the move of Dwayne Washington from receiver to running back (here’s a pre-spring look at the depth chart at that spot). Ryan McDaniel could also factor in as he gets back in shape after missing last year while rehabbing an ACL tear.

Kendyl Taylor also has experience at tailback, though he was used more as a slot receiver in the spring.
