Williams catching on in Toronto?

reggietoronto

Former Husky Reggie Williams got a little bit of a boost in his efforts to revive his pro career last night, making a juggling catch for a 15-yard touchdown for the Toronto Argonauts in their pre-season 24-20 win over Montreal. That’s a picture of the catch above in a photo from the team’s official web site.

It was the only catch of the game for Williams, who is listed third on the team’s depth chart — so he may still  have some work to do to make the final  roster when regular season games begin next week.

But on the surface it seems a step in the right direction for Williams, who hasn’t played since a brief stint in 2011 with Sacramento of the departed United Football League, and was last on a regular-season NFL roster in 2008 with Jacksonville. He was signed as a free agent by Seattle in 2010 but then cut two months later before training camp began.

Williams remains UW’s leading all-time receiver with 238 catches for 3,536 yards.

Also on the Toronto roster is quarterback Josh Portis, who was waived by the Seahawks in May.  He’s listed fourth on the team’s depth chart and didn’t put up any stats last night.

Another former Husky still on a CFL roster is Ben Ossai, listed as a second-string right tackle for the BC Lions.
