Junior tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and true freshman wide receiver John Ross are both listed as starters in the depth chart UW released Saturday afternoon, a week before its season opener against No. 19 Boise State.

Seferian-Jenkins’ status for the opener remains uncertain. He broke a bone in his right pinkie finger that required surgery on Aug. 15. In July, the preseason All-American pleaded guilty to drunken driving. UW coach Steve Sarkisian said he would not publicly announce any potential disciplinary action related to Seferian-Jenkins’ case.

The 5-foot-11, 173-pound Ross, meanwhile, has impressed UW coaches enough to vault him ahead of sophomore Jaydon Mickens as the slot receiver. Ross, said to be the fastest player on the team, is also listed as a punt returner, as is junior receiver Kasen Williams.

Opposite Williams, senior Kevin Smith is also listed as a starting wideout. Smith has been singled out repeatedly as the Huskies’ most pleasant surprise of fall camp

On defense, converted tight end Evan Hudson is listed as a starter at defensive tackle, next to junior Hau’oli Kikaha as the strong-side defensive end. Sophomore Cory Littleton has won the starting job as the rush end.

In another close position battle, either Princeton Fuimaona “or” sophomore Travis Feeney will start at one outside linebacker spot.

Ross is the only true freshman listed as a starter on offense or defense. Seven others made the two-deep: defensive end Joe Mathis, receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow, right tackle Coleman Shelton, cornerback Jermaine Kelly, safeties Trevor Walker and Kevin King, and kickoff specialist Cameron Van Winkle.
