— Sacramento State (0-1) at Arizona State (0-0), 7 o’clock tonight, Pac-12 Networks: The Hornets shocked Oregon State to open the 2011 season. Can they do it again? Umm … no chance. Sac State lost to San Jose State 24-0 last week, and this is nothing more than a paycheck game. Arizona State, my pick to win the Pac-12 South, is a 35-point favorite, and I think they’ll cover at home in 102-degree heat. The pick: Arizona State 48, Sacramento State 6.

— Weber State at Utah, 11 a.m. Saturday, Pac-12 Networks: Dennis Erickson, miracle worker. Who knew? The pick: Utah 42, Weber State 21.

— No. 2 Oregon (1-0) at Virginia (1-0): 12:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC: The Ducks had a school-record 772 yards of total offense in a 66-3 rout of FCS Nicholls State last week. Virginia, meanwhile, knocked off BYU 19-16. The biggest intrigue here is whether touted freshman Thomas Tyner makes his debut for the Ducks. The pick: Oregon 49, Virginia 13.

—- Portland State (1-0) at Cal (0-1), 2 p.m. Saturday, Pac-12 Networks: The Bears put up a good fight in Sonny Dykes’ Cal debut, totaling 548 yards of offense (and 99 offensive plays) in a 44-30 loss to No. 19 Northwestern. He might be onto something out West with this hurry-up offense. The pick: Cal 49, Portland State 13.

— Central Arkansas (1-0) at Colorado (2-0), 5 p.m. Saturday: Break up the Buffs! Colorado is poised to double its win total from 2012 in its first season under new coach Mike MacIntyre. The pick: Colorado 38, Central Arkansas 14.

— Hawaii (0-1) at Oregon State (0-1), 5 p.m. Saturday, Pac-12 Networks: The Beavers allowed 625 yards in a loss in FCS Eastern Washington last Saturday. That’s stunning. OSU, as noted above, had a similar start in 2011, which portended a 3-9 season. I have a hard time seeing that happening again to a Mike Riley-coached team. The Beavers bounce back. The pick: Oregon State 35, Hawaii 21.

— Washington State (0-1) at No. 25 USC (1-0), 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Fox Sports 1: There’s part of me that is tempted to pick the upset here. More likely, the USC secondary will be picking off Connor Halliday all night. The pick: USC 35, Washington State 24.

— San Jose State (1-0) at No. 5 Stanford (0-0), 8 p.m. Saturday, Pack-12 Networks: I think the Cardinal are one of the most overrated teams in the country. They’re good, don’t get me wrong. I’m just not convinced they’re top-five great. That said, I think they’ll be OK in their opener here. The pick: Stanford 34, San Jose State 17.

— Arizona (1-0) at UNLV (0-1), 7:30 p.m. Saturday, CBS Sports Network: Ka’Deem Carey, the nation’s rushing king in 2012, is back and that’s bad new for the Rebels. The pick: Arizona 45, UNLV 30.

Note: Washington and UCLA have a bye this week.
