Bishop Sankey rushed 35 times for 208 yards — both career highs — in the Huskies’ 34-24 victory over Illinois on Saturday.
Through two games, Sankey, who celebrates his 21st birthday today, has 369 yards on 60 rushes with three rushing touchdowns (plus his 31-yard reception for UW’s first touchdown Saturday). He’s averaging 6.15 yards per carry, and his 184.5 yards per game leads the nation by a wide margin.
Rutgers’ Paul James is second with an average of 164.3 yards. In three games, James has 493 yards on 61 carries.
In his past seven games, Sankey has rushed for 1,142 yards — an average of 163 yards per game.
“As a team and as a running backs corps and me personally, we are all just thinking about moving forward and on to the next game and constantly getting better,” Sankey said. “We can’t get complacent and that is something that we preach in the program.”
