Gary Pinkel, 61, who spent 13 years at Washington as an assistant under his mentor, Don James, declined to address the UW opening Monday when asked by a reporter from CBSsports.com.

Pinkel will coach Missouri in the SEC title game on Saturday against Auburn.

Ask about Pinkel, Missouri athletic director Mike Alden told CBSSports.com, “We haven’t talked to anybody. We don’t know any of that. Our focus is on the Auburn game. However, when those kinds of things come up. If there is any speculation that’s just recognition of the success you’re having at your place.”

Pinkel, who played for James at Kent State in the early 1970s, attended James’ memorial service on Oct. 27 in Seattle.

“He is one of the most successful men with the most humility I’ve ever met in my life,” Pinkel said.
