Austin Seferian-Jenkins was named the John Mackey Award winner on Wednesday as the nation’s top tight end. He will be presented the award during a college football awards show today at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Bishop Sankey is there, too, as one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, presented to the nation’s top running back. The winner will be announced live during the ESPN broadcast. Here’s one argument favoring Sankey and Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey for the award. Here’s another arguing that Andre Williams of Boston College should “run away” with the Doak.
The runnings backs’ 2013 stats:
—- Sankey: 306 carries, 1,775 yards, 18 TDs
—- Carey: 323 carries, 1,716 yards, 17 TDs
—- Williams: 329 carries, 2,102 yards, 17 TDs
ESPNU will air a red-carpet show starting at 3 p.m. PT today, and ESPN will broadcast the awards show at 4.
— The Huskies have scheduled the spring game for April 19.
— A Chris Petersen protege is taking over at Boise State.
— Carey said if he’s a projected first- or second-round pick, he’ll probably leave Arizona early for the NFL.
— Breaking down Arizona State’s zone-read offense.
