Newport High School tight end Drew Sample has made a verbal commitment to Washington, switching his previous commitment from Boise State, according to Scout.com.
Sample is the second known recruit to flip from Boise State to UW since new coach Chris Petersen‘s arrival in Seattle. Quarterback Jalen Greene did the same last week.
Sample is listed at 6 feet 5, 235 pounds and rated as a three-star recruit by Scout and 247sports.com.
“From the start it was a school that I was disappointed in never getting an offer from and so we decided that in the end it’s the best spot for me and I agree with that,” Sample told Scout. “I’m definitely excited to be up in the home town and playing in front of all the people that are huge Husky fans. It’s definitely exciting.
“Since I got the offer from Coach Pete I continued to stay in touch with him and coach (Jonathan) Smith and I was talking with them about Washington and what a great opportunity that would be for me, especially being from Washington and growing up around here.”
