New Washington coach Chris Petersen gave a brief introduction of the Huskies’ new coaching staff Tuesday morning, with the nine assistants then fielding questions in an informal press conference. Petersen did not field any questions, but had this to say:
“I appreciate you guys coming out today. I’m real excited to announce this staff. That’s one of the areas as a head coach that I have always lost a lot of sleep making sure that these coaches are just right for us, for this university and, most importantly, for these kids.
“And the great thing is all of them but one I’ve coached with for a long time, and I know what they’re all about. And the one that I haven’t coached with I feel equally as good and strong about. And so I think the University of Washington is in really good hands with these fine coaches.
“I think they’re excellent football coaches; I think there’s a lot of good football coaches out there these days, but I think what really makes me sleep well at night (is) I know what kind of people they are, I know how they’re going to treat these kids, and I think there’s just a lot more to it than just coaching X’s and O’s. I’m excited to let you guys get to know them and figure out what they’re all about.”
