Dave Kopay was a stellar halfback for the University of Washington from 1961-63.
During his senior season, he was a co-captain for the Huskies who led the team in receptions and helped UW reach the Rose Bowl. He was named a 1963 AP Honorable Mention All-American.
He went on to play nine seasons in the NFL with San Francisco, Detroit, Washington, New Orleans and the Green Bay Packers.
In 1975 after he retired from pro football, he became one of the first professional athletes to come out as gay. His 1977 biography, The David Kopay Story: An Extraordinary Self-Revelation, co-written with Perry Deane Young, was a New York Times best-seller and has inspired millions of readers.
