Huskies announce offseason fan events

Many of you have asked about the structure for the Huskies’ April 19 Spring Preview. I imagine there will be some live tackling and elements of a scrimmage, but it won’t be a full-on game. It will probably be structured similar to the rest of the spring practices, with an emphasis on individual drills. We should know more about that next week.

Last week, UW announced a fan festival that will start at 10 a.m. on April 19, three hours before the start of the Spring Preview. Today, UW announced tentative dates for its annual Raise the Woof fundraiser; that will be on Aug. 22 or 23, a week before the Huskies open the 2014 season at Hawaii.

The UW press release:

University of Washington athletic department officials announced scheduling for two offseason events designed to provide fans opportunities to interact with the Husky Football team and staff. The 2014 Spring Preview on Sat., April 19, surrounds the Huskies’ final spring practice and will offer a fan-fest with team engagement opportunities. Additionally, the sixth-annual Raise the Woof football pep rally will be held the weekend prior to the Dawgs’ season opener at Hawaii.

“We are excited to host these two football off-season events for fans, which will provide opportunities to interact with current student-athletes and coaches,” Shannon Kelly, Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Strategic Programs, said. “We hope Huskies everywhere will come out to support their team and welcome Coach Petersen and his new coaching staff.”

While roster depth issues prevent a full spring game this year, UW head coach Chris Petersen and department officials felt strongly about providing an opportunity for fans to watch the Huskies practice and interact with players and coaches. The Spring Preview will begin with a fan-fest on the East Practice Field at 10 a.m. featuring interactive football activities and entertainment for kids, as well as a team autograph session and photograph opportunities from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Fans are then invited to watch the Dawgs practice at 1 p.m. in Husky Stadium.

Fans will also have the chance to see the Husky Football team in a unique atmosphere during Raise the Woof, Washington’s annual football pep rally. The rally is held in Dempsey Indoor, the team’s indoor practice facility, where student-athletes are available to interact with attendees and take photos. The event will be held either Fri., Aug. 22, or Sat., Aug. 23.
