Senior running back Jesse Callier will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles on the opening kickoff against Georgia State, effectively ending his playing career for the Huskies.

“That’s a tough one to take,” UW coach Chris Petersen said. “He’s a guy who’s done a lot of good things for us.”

Callier, a team captain before Washington’s victory over Georgia State, was part of Washington’s “core four” rushing attack this season. He started against Eastern Washington and had 19 carries for 91 yards and one touchdown this season.

Callier was UW’s starting tailback entering the 2012 season before tearing his ACL in the first quarter of the season opener at San Diego State.
