Huskies morning links: Getting to know Jake Browning

Jake Browning leads Folsom High against Rocklin in a battle of unbeatens tonight in Sierra Foothill League football tonight in northern California. It figures to be Folsom’s biggest test yet in what Browning, the UW quarterback signee, hopes is long march toward a state title.

I enjoyed getting the chance to watch Browning and the Bulldogs play two weeks ago in Green Valley, Calif. Here’s what came of that trip. Browning had eight touchdown passes that game in a 63-6 victory. For the season, he’s thrown for 2,624 yards, 43 touchdowns and two interceptions. Teams have tried just about everything to slow down Browning; one team dropped 11 defenders into coverage

He’s also the Bulldogs’ punter. He’s punted twice in three years. And not once this season.

“His temperament just never changes. … He’s just very calm. He sees things very clearly and slowly,” said Folsom co-head coach Troy Taylor, who played quarterback at Cal and for the New York Jets. “It’s a combination of an easygoing personality mixed in with some Type-A attributes. It’s a fascinating combination. He’s very detail-oriented and a hard worker, but he doesn’t stress. Usually you’ll get those Type-A guys and they can be wound a little tight, but he’s not that guy.”
