The Huskies’ Shaq Thompson and Hau’oli Kikaha are two of 15 semifinalists named Monday for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker.
Kikaha, UW’s senior “buck” end/linebacker, broke the school’s career sack record with two sacks against Arizona State on Saturday night. That gave him 31.5 for his career and 14.5 this season, tying Jason Chorak (1996) for UW’s single-season record.
Kikaha leads the nation in both sacks and tackles for loss (19.5).
Thompson, UW’s two-way star, has four defensive touchdowns this season, more than any defensive player over the past 10 years, according to ESPN.
UCLA also had two linebackers named semifinals: Eric Kendricks and Myles Jack, the former Bellevue High star.
