Washington senior defensive linemen Danny Shelton and Hau’oli Kikaha have been named academic all-district selections, the first Huskies so honored since Kyle Benn in 2001.
The selections mean Shelton and Kikaha move on as nominees for academic all-America honors. The Huskies have not had a national Academic All-America winner since wide receiver Dave Janoski was second team in 1996.
Shelton, an anthropology major with a 3.54 grade-point average, is a two-time first-team Academic Pac-12 selection. This fall he is teaching a freshman orientation class on campus.
Kikaha, the national leader in sacks and tackles for loss, was a first-team all-Pac-12 academic selection last year. He has a 3.51 GPA in American Ethnics Studies.
