Hau’oli Kikaha was in Houston on Wednesday night for the presentation of the Lombardi Trophy, won by Arizona’s Scooby Wright. Kikaha will continue his awards circuit with a trip to Southern California for the Lott IMPACT Trophy presentation Sunday in Newport Beach, Calif.
I was asked to vote for the Lott Trophy, and my ballot had Kikaha at the top. I did some research on the other finalists, and all of whom are worthy candidates for an award that recognizes the college players who best combines integrity and performance. Of course, I have gotten to know Kikaha fairly well the past two seasons and he is genuinely one of the most thoughtful, classy and committed college athletes I have covered. He would do the Lott Trophy proud.
- UW nose tackle Danny Shelton has earned his first first-team all-America honor, this from USA Today. Kikaha is a second-team selection. They are UW’s first defensive linemen to earn all-America status since Larry Tripplett in 2001.
