UW linebackers Shaq Thompson and Hau’oli Kikaha have been named first-team All-Americans by ESPN, and free safety Budda Baker has been named to another freshman All-America team.
Kikaha has also been named a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, CBS and Scout. Thompson has earned other first-team honors from CBS and Scout.
Baker, the former Bellevue High star, has been named a freshman All-American by Scout and the website SportsOnEarth. He started every game as a true freshman for UW during the regular season. He’s third on the team with 76 tackles, plus two forced fumbles, earning all-Pac-12 honorable-mention honors.
UW senior nose tackle Danny Shelton was named a first-team All-American by USA Today, the first time since 1997 that UW has had three first-team All-Americans in the same season.
To earn consensus (or unanimous) All-America honors from the NCAA, a player must be on three of the five “official” first-teams: Walter Camp, The Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association, the Football Writers Association of America and the Sporting News.
