Washington senior defensive end/linebacker Hau’oli Kikaha has been named a first-team All-American on Wednesday morning by the Sporting News and the American Football Coaches Association, making him the 19th consensus All-American in UW history.

UPDATE: Kikaha, named to The Associated Press first team on Tuesday, is UW’s first consensus All-American since Olin Kreutz in 1997. Benji Olson was UW’s last unanimous All-American in 1996.

Kikaha can earn “unanimous” distinction if he’s selected to the Football Writers Association of American All-America first team announced later today. UW has had five unanimous selections in school history.

UW’s Danny Shelton was also a first-team selection by The Sporting News. He could earn consensus status if he’s selected to the FWAA team.

UW’s Shaq Thompson was named to The Sporting News’ second team.
