Hawes “Just a little setback”

Spencer Hawes just met the media here and described his surgery tomorrow as
“just a little setback.”
Hawes will have arthroscopic surgery to remove a loose particle in his right knee.
Hawes said the knee began bothering him a week or two ago, and after he had more pain, he met with doctors and all parties decided that surgery was the best option.
“We want to make sure it doesn’t flare up in the future,” he said.
UW coach Lorenzo Romar said that the four-week timetable would have Hawes out until Nov. 7, which is five days before UW begins the season on Nov. 12 against Pepperdine.
But both coach and player expect that Hawes will be back before that.
“I’m pretty optimistic,” he said. “I feel good about it.”
Hawes said the worst aspect of it is that he could lose a little of his conditioning. But Romar pointed out that Hawes just ran a 5:22 mile in a conditioning test a few weeks ago, so he doesn’t think Hawes will have a tough time getting right back into things.
