Practice begins

OK, time to move on past Hoopla, as practice has now begun in earnest.
One note on our coverage of that here — the coaches like for the team to be pretty undisturbed during the first week of practices, and because there is no game for three weeks, there isn’t much need for us to be out there. So there might not be a lot of news here for a little while.
As for practice starting, coach Lorenzo Romar said Friday he anticipates more need for teaching this season than the past few years due to the youth of the team. He also said there might be a little less tinkering with roles early on in an attempt to let players get settled and enhance the learning process. That doesn’t mean the lineup is set at all, just that early in practice it might be better to keep the lineups in practice fairly stable so everyone can concentrate on figuring everything out.
If there was anything to glean from Hoopla, it was that the battle for the other guard spot opposite Justin Dentmon should be a doozy. Adrian Oliver showed fans who had never seen him before what a lot of us have seen all summer — he’s a real player and ready to contribute big-time right now. Harvey Perry looks to be completely healthy and shows an increased range on his shot along with his obvious defensive fits. And Ryan Appleby looks to have picked up where he left off last season.
