Romar to stay even longer

Not that there was any real thought he was going anywhere anytime soon, but the Washington Huskies are about to make it a virtual certainty that Lorenzo Romar will be their coach for a very long time.
We published a story today about an impending contract extension for Romar that will enhance both the length and salary of his current deal.
The exact details aren’t available yet, but I know it will include buyout clauses and deferred money. This will likely be announced around letter-of-intent time to make a point about Romar’s commitment to the school.
Also, on the scheduling front, had some questions about the Maui Classic. UW won’t be able to get into it until at least 2009 as that is a hard tournament to get into. The Huskies may get into the pre-season NIT next year and are also looking into the Guardians Classic in the future.
The Huskies aren’t interested in Hawaii tournaments over the Christmas holidays because the Pac-10 conference schedule has been moved up — this year, the conference opener is Dec. 28. They don’t see value in being in Hawaii so close to the beginning of conference play.
