Pac-10 media day on tap

The Pac-10 Conference holds its annual men’s basketball media day Thursday in Los Angeles and I’m on my way down there tonight.
It’s a chance for the media to talk to all 10 coaches and get a good overview of the conference, as well as meet a few of the players.
And it’s a good place to get a lot of little tidbits from around the league — I’ll have lots of coverage in this space Thursday and in ensuing days.
What often gets the most attention is the conference’s preseason media poll, which is released in conjunction with media day.
I had a vote and here’s the way I picked it.
1. Arizona
2. UCLA
3. Washington
4. Oregon
5. USC
6. Cal
7. Stanford
8. Washington State
9. Oregon State
10. Arizona State
As I’ve stated on here before, I think UW is an immensely talented team that will be a real bear come March. Picking them third in the conference doesn’t mean I’m down on them at all — I expect each of the top three teams to be contenders for the Sweet 16 and beyond this season.
I just think putting such a new roster togther may result in a few losses early in the year, especially with five of the first seven conference games on the road.
