Huskies to hit cover of Sports Illustrated

Among the many items gleaned today from Pac-10 men’s basketball media day was the news that the Huskies will grace the cover of a regional edition of Sports Illustrated for its college basketball preview issue in a few weeks.
An SI photographer is coming out later this week to shoot Ryan Appleby and Jon Brockman for the cover, with other photos likely to be inside.
It will be the first time a UW athlete has been the focus of a cover of SI since Sonny Sixkiller’s memorable appearance in the fall of 1971.
But it comes with the caveat that it will be a regional cover only, something SI is doing on an increasing basis these days.
If you remember last year, SI also had regional covers for its college basketball preview. Last year, I think there were four different covers — Duke was on the cover of the main edition, but if you lived on the West Coast it was Arizona.
