Perry persevering

A lot of you have asked why Harvey Perry didn’t play against Northern Iowa the other night.
I talked about it with Perry and UW coach Lorenzo Romar today and sounds like it was nothing out of the ordinary — the game’s style just didn’t suit Perry.
Perry said he’s healthy enough, though he said at the moment, he can probably only play about 15 minutes a game due to his conditioning, which he said still isn’t where he’d like it to be. He also said he’s struggling a little bit to adjust to UW’s defensive style of guarding all over the floor.
“I have to get used to the pace of the game and up and down and running,” Perry said.
He said his back still gets a little stiff when he plays, then comes out of the game. But he said it’s not an issue when he’s on the court.
“The main focus for me right now is getting in shape so I can become that defensive perimeter player that I came in being,” he said. “The way the coaches want us to play is a little different for me so it’s a process I have to get used to. I’m just learning right now just like the freshmen are.”
