Oliver into starting lineup

Lorenzo Romar announced before practice today that Adrian Oliver will start at guard in place of Ryan Appleby on Wednesday when the Huskies host Idaho at Edmundson Pavilion.
“It’s partly a reward and partly chemistry-wise,” Romar said. “He’s been coming for a while in some areas. He gets to the foul line, which means he’s aggressive. He rebounds on both ends of the floor. He is a guard that has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. He can knock down the three. He does a lot. The big thing with Adrian is that he has go to out and compete at a high level every minute that he’s out there on the floor. If he’s doing that he brings a lot to the table.”
Oliver did that Friday night in leading the Huskies to a 90-83 win over Eastern Washington as he scored a career-high 14 points and had nine rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes. He also took over primary duties for guarding Rodney Stuckey in the second half as UW rallied for the win.
Appleby started the first five games but has struggled a little bit the past two games, scoring a combined nine points against Sacramento State and Eastern. He returns now to his role of a year ago, coming off the bench.
“You can still consider Ryan a starter, he’s just not getting his name called,” Romar said.
The Huskies now have the starting lineup many envisioned at the start of the season with three members of the acclaimed freshmen class — Spencer Hawes, Quincy Pondexter and Oliver — alongside sophomores Jon Brockman and Justin Dentmon.
