Few non-plussed over end of series

Gonzaga coach Mark Few held a conference call with reporters today to discuss the Washington game Saturday, and the news that Washington says the series is definitely ending for at least a year was topic number one.
Not that it was one that Few embraced.
“The media and the fans seem to be more worked up about it than the staffs and the players,” Few said. “Our guys know they are going to play a lot of big-time games in big-time arenas that are on national television. That will certainly be the case as long as I’m here.”
But Few expressed some empathy for UW coach Lorenzo Romar saying “scheduling is really the hardest part of the business right now, even tougher than recruiting, and there are a lot of different ways to do it. Washington’s way has certainly worked terrifically the last couple of years.”
Few also said he had been “misinterpreted on this, especially over in your region (the Seattle area)” a reference to a comment in the Tacoma News Tribune that “if we lost seven of the last eight games, I’d probably look to get rid of that team.” Gonzaga has won seven of the last eight in the series. Few said later the comment wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.
“It’s not that big a deal,” Few said.
We’ll have more on this in the paper in Friday’s editions and on-line.
