Guard starter still undecided

The Huskies practiced in Seattle this afternoon, then flew to Spokane for tomorrow’s game with Gonzaga. Through a spokesman, UW coach Lorenzo Romar said he had not yet decided on who will be the starter at the off-guard spot — it will be either Adrian Oliver or Ryan Appleby.
Not sure it matters a whole lot as both will see significant time. Appleby has played well in the two games coming off the bench, however, scoring 35 points, including the 24-poiunt outing against Southern Utah.
Romar said he’ll decide on Saturday.
Asked about the position earlier in the week, Romar said “whoever may start out there may not finish there. We’ll see how it goes.”
Here are few other notes:
— A few of you had asked whether the Huskies might give a scholarship to walk-on Brandon Burmeister now that Harvey Perry has left the team. Romar said this week it’s not legal by NCAA rules do to so, that players can’t be awarded scholarships during the season.
— I wrote a story the other day on Spencer Hawes. You can find that here.
Hawes acknowledges he needs to improve his rebounding, but also says it’s early to start getting too concerned about anything.
“I need to rebound better, but the fact remains that we are 7-0 and ranked No, 8 in one poll and No. 13 in another, so we are doing well right now and that’s above everything else,” Hawes said. “I think as the season goes on, the other stuff will take care of itself. I’m not worried about it.”
— Justin Dentmon had a funny quote the other day when asked about what it’ll be like to see Gonzaga without Adam Morrison. “It’ll be weird, but they’ve got another kid on the team with wild hair, another Morrison,” he said. “But they don’t have a primary go-to guy. They are looking to something different.” The guy with the wild hair he was referring to was freshman Matt Bouldin. You can see what he’s talking about here.
