Tipoff nearing

As countdown nears for the tipoff against Weber State, I’ve noticed a lot of talk here about Jon Brockman.
I wrote a little about him here for today’s paper, with Brockman and Lorenzo Romar each saying the LSU game was his best as a Husky.
But even before that, Romar has never voiced the slightest bit of concern about Brockman’s play, either this year or last season. In fact, on media day this year, Romar said Brockman’s was the only starting job that was assured.
He says he’s stunned when he hears people questioning Brockman’s worth.
“I’ve heard that this year and the guy is pretty much averaging a double-double, so it really is kind of a compliment to him,” Romar said.
In fact, Brockman is averaging 12.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for the season and has grabbed 12 or more rebounds in four of UW’s last five games. Brockman is also shooting 55.7 percent for the season.
As for tonight’s game, expect Weber State to try to slow the game down. The Wildcats are averaging 67.5 points per game but have scored more than 70 only once in their past seven games.
But as with most games against undermanned foes, this game is mostly about the Huskies. If UW comes with the intensity at least close to what it had the other night (hard to expect the same) there shouldn’t be a lot of drama to this one.
