More on TV

My note in this story today on the fact that the UW-USC game Thursday is not on TV generated a few e-mails.
So I thought I’d pass along the official UW response on the matter.
Quoting from a UW official from an e-mail it sent out to those who asked: “While we are certainly thrilled that 28 of Washington’s 30 regular-season games this season are televised, we share your disappointment that our television partner (FSN Northwest) was unable to deliver Thursday’s game.
“Pac-10 television agreements prohibit member institutions from televising games that are in direct head-to-head conflict with a conference telecast. In Thursday’s case, the league and its television partner (FSN) selected the Washington State at UCLA contest for regional telecast throughout the West Coast. We applied for a waiver of the time period exclusivity to allow FSN Northwest to telecast the game (most likely with distribution on Comcast since they FSN is obligated to carry the Pac-10 game) and were denied the request. For the record, we did receive waivers on two other games during the conference season.
“The interesting thing about Thursday’s game is that, since there are two FSN affiliates in the region, it will be televised in Southern California on FSN West. If you have access to DIRECTV (Channel 653) or Dish Network (Channel 411), you can watch the game on FSN Prime Ticket.”
So hopefully that at least answers your questions about this specific instance.
Also, we ran our Pac-10 preview today, picking UW third behind UCLA and Arizona.
