USC redux

To answer a few quick questions on last night’s game:
— The 12 free throws attempted by UW was a season-low, and the 38 attempted by USC was a season-high for a Husky opponent, so that, obviously, was the biggest disparity of the season. The only time last year that an opponent shot that many free throws was UConn in the NCAA tourney game (47). Arizona also shot 38 in the double OT game at Hec Ed early in the season.
— I know the above numbers will lead everyone to think the refs had it in for UW. But I can also tell you that the home fans booed the refs off the court at the end of the first overtime when everyone thought Nick Young got fouled on the baseline shot he attempted. Officiating always depends on your perspective.
— The officials, by the way, were Verne Harris, Bruce Hicks and Deron White, all regular Pac-10 guys.
— UW had 20 turnovers, the fifth time this year that the Huskies have had that many. By way of comparison, UW had 20 or more turnovers only once last season — 28 in the win at USC.
— Quincy Pondexter had suffered a concussion against Weber State and didn’t practice Tuesday and that may be why his play was limited, though I think the foul trouble was obviously the biggest reason.
— If you think Petros Papadakis is annoying on air, you should hear him do the PA for USC basketball games. It’s like listening to Vince McMahon (which in my world, isn’t a compliment).
— Want to make sure you saw our coverage from today, which can be found here.
— We’ll have more later from UW’s practice.
