Notes on Turner, Thomas, Hawes

Catching up on a few Husky-related items:
First, Elston Turner Jr., and Isaiah Thomas, who have each committed to sign with UW as part of the Class of 2008, had impressive showings recently at the NBPA Camp, which is put on by the National Basketball Players Association. The camp, in Charlottesville, Va., is regarded as one of the best in the country for high school players.
Turner, a 6-5 small forward, was rated as the No. 8 player at the camp by Rivals.com (here’s a story on that rating though it requires a subscription).
In summarizing Turner’s game, Rivals wrote that Turner “showed he could run the point, score as a two guard, rebound like a small forward and he defended well at all three positions.”
Thomas also attended the camp, and recruiting analyst Van Coleman of CSTV wrote in this piece that Thomas showed “he can pass as well as score … something many of the scouts courtside thought could never happen.”
Finally, Andy Katz is reporting tonight that Spencer Hawes is “fairly confident” he will be taken with the No. 9 pick by the Bulls after having had another workout with Chicago on Tuesday. Hawes is in New York already where he will attend the draft on Thursday.
