Hawes reaction

Spencer Hawes just talked to reporters on a conference call from New York and said he was ecstatic at being selected No. 10 by the Sacramento Kings.
“Can’t wait,” he said, when asked how anxious he is to begin his career.
Hawes said he had a pretty good idea he wouldn’t slip past Philadelphia, which had the No. 12 pick in the draft, but that “there are no guarantees until they call your name.”
Hawes said he had figured there was a good chance the Bulls would take him at No. 9 after the team invited him in for a second workout earlier this week.
He said he was “a little bit” surprise that the Bulls didn’t take him. “But I’m happy where I’m at so I’m not going to focus on that,” he said.
The call included a lot of the same questions regarding Hawes’ game, so I won’t get into those.
He was asked, however, if being picked 10th justified leaving UW after one season.
“I think so,” he said. “This is a great culmination to all the hard work I’ve put in.”
Hawes also passed along some praise to UW when asked about the fact that the Huskies have now had first-round picks each of the last three years — Nate Robinson in 2005, Brandon Roy last season and now Hawes.
“That just shows how much the program has grown and what Coach (Lorenzo) Romar has meant to it,” he said.
We’ll have some reaction from Romar soon.
