Now I’m off to LSU

Actually, I’m in Houston as I type this, on my way to Baton Rouge for the LSU game tomorrow.
I wrote this story for today’s paper on what it at stake for the Huskies tomorrow, particularly, trying to get some confidence on the road before heading into Pac-10 play.
UW is 2-14 in its last 16 games away from home (including neutral court games) something that has to change if the Huskies are going to make a run at a post-season tournament of any kind this season.
I also sense that the Huskies could use a road win in a game like this to get some buzz back. I haven’t noticed a real overwhelming interest in this team this season for a lot of obvious reasons — namely, lower expectations than at any time since heading into the 2003-04 season. A loss against LSU would mean UW would head into Pac-10 play with at least five losses and make the Huskies a real long shot for an at-large NCAA Tournament berth. A win, however, could give the Huskies a five-game winning streak heading into the conference opener next week against Washington State and maybe revive some hope.
And LSU is eminently beatable.
The Tigers, as you can see here, are also 7-4, and have lost to Arizona State and struggled to beat Oregon State in trying to adjust to the post-Glen Davis era. So this looms as a real opportunity for UW tomorrow.
I’ll have more later from Baton Rouge.
