Tonight’s picks

Here are tonight’s Pac-10 picks.
WASHINGTON AT UCLA: Was a bit surprised initially to see that UCLA was an 18-point favorite in this one. But then I noticed that of UCLA’s 14 wins, only one has come by less than double digits — a five-pointer at Michigan State. The Bruins also have one loss, to Texas. Still, think I’d take the points in this one as I think the Huskies can score — the question will be whether they can stop the Bruins, whose offense is a bit higher-paced this season. UCLA is averaging 74.9 points per game, more than five points per game more than last season. UCLA will win, but I’ll guess the Huskies stay within striking disance for a while. UCLA 75, UW 62.
WASHINGTON STATE AT USC: Was almost equally surprised to see the Trojans favored in this one — by four in the line I saw. This is a big one for the Trojans to avoid falling into an 0-3 hole. But hard not to be a believer in the Cougars right now and I just think the vets will beat the kids in this one. WSU 63, USC 58.
CAL AT OREGON: This is actually a matchup of the two top scoring offenses in the conference, a little surprising given the Bears’ usual course under Ben Braun — at 80.5, Bears are averaging 11 points more per game than last season. Ducks got a big win at Arizona last Saturday to get back on track, and should stay there tonight. OREGON 85, CAL 77.
STANFORD AT OREGON STATE: Technically, these are the two worst shooting teams in the conference. But OSU’s 39.8 is a lot worse than Stanford’s 46.6 (which is barely below USC’s 46.8). Most intrigue may be watching to see what C.J. Giles does. STANFORD 71, OSU 55.
SEASON RECORD: 9-1.
