Giles gone

The housecleaning at OSU continued today with center C.J. Giles, the former Rainier Beach High star, dismissed from the team, a day after the school fired coach Jay John.
Here’s more from Oregonlive.com and I’ll pass along more if I get it now that I’m off of Snoqualmie Pass.
UPDATE — Rainier Beach athletic director Dan Jurdy said that Giles was called into the office of interim coach Kevin Mouton and told that the program wanted to go in a fresh start.
Jurdy said when Giles asked what he had done wrong he was told again simply that the program wanted to start anew with John now gone.
Giles had transferred to Oregon State in December, 2006 after being dismissed at Kansas and there was a hope at Oregon State that he could be the savior of the program and of John’s job.
But he fouled out in six of the 10 games he played for the Beavers this season, including Saturday’s loss at UW. He was averaging 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds heading into the UW game.
Giles was academically eligible, and he is expected to stay in school and finish out the semester at OSU. If he wants to continue playing college basketball he would have to transfer to a lower division.
Jurdy said Giles “had no inclination this was coming. He was caught completely off-guard.”
