Wednesday links

A few links for a Wednesday morning:
— Here’s my story today on Joel Smith. Smith hasn’t had the season he or anyone else was really hoping for, but he says that hasn’t swayed his optimism about the future here at UW. “I don’t sit back and complain about stuff,” he said. “I’ve just got to come back and work harder.”
Bud Withers penned this Pac-10 notebook today with a lead item on OSU attempting not to become the first team to ever go 0-18 in conference play.
Robyn Norwood of the LA Times has her Pac-10 notebook today with a lead item on the fading hopes for seven conference teams to get NCAA bids. She also has an interesting note on the coaching situation at Arizona, with a source telling her that Kevin O’Neill might not want to stick around if Lute Olson comes back next year.
— The big news from Stanford this week is a contract extension for coach Trent Johnson, who is a graduate of Franklin High. This was viewed as a key year for Johnson to move the program past the Mike Montgomery era, and Johnson has done just that.
The Bootleg.com has a transcript of Johnson’s Tuesday press conference with comments about the game with UW Thursday.
— The Arizona Daily Star has a good Pac-10 notebook.
All for now.
